Our Favorite Fall Things To Do in McHenry County

Fall is here and around the Glacier Realty office, we are in the mood for cozy sweaters, apple cider, bonfires and more!

As residents of McHenry County know, our community is a wonderful place to be, especially during this time of the year. With an abundance of wide open spaces, the Fox River and bountiful access to trees and nature, there is something for everyone. Whether you’re into sitting back and watching the leaves change colors day by day or getting the family out for fun, kid-friendly activities, McHenry County has it all.

These fall favorites are only a short list of the incredible things there are to do this season throughout McHenry County. Our team was raised in McHenry County and have such fond memories of things we used to do when we were kids and the memories we’ve been able to create with our own families. We hope you enjoy!

1. Richardson Corn Maze “Celebrating 60 Years of James Bond”

One thing we love about McHenry County is the abundance of farmland that thrives in our community. Many farms have cool corn mazes, but not all can live up to the size and detail of the Richardson Adventure Farm Corn Maze. With its 9+ miles of trail winding through 28 acres of live corn, you are in for a challenge and a treat. This year’s maze celebrates the familiar faces that have portrayed “007” over the years – Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton, Daniel Craig, and Pierce Brosnan. The only question left is, will you accept this mission?

2. Bonfires and Sunset Hayrides

Stade’s Farm Market

3709 Miller Rd

McHenry, IL 60051

Gather a group of family and friends and enjoy an old-fashioned, antique tractor-driven hayride at sunset. Each hayride lasts approximately 30 minutes giving you a tour of the expansive fields and returning to a brilliant blaze of fire to complete your evening. The bonfire site is equipped with a grill for those in the mood to cook dinner by the campfire and don’t forget, it’s BYOS… Bring Your Own S’mores! Available Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, be sure to book your group’s night out.

3. Apple Picking, Pumpkin Patch, Barnyard & Farm Market

All Seasons Orchard

14510 IL Route 176

Woodstock, IL 60098

A favorite fall destination for families and groups alike, All Seasons Orchard is one of the largest “you-pick” apple orchards in northern Illinois. With over 15,000 apple trees and two apple orchards, you are sure to get your fill of fruit for seasonal pies, jams, ciders and more.

4. Apple Orchard Meets Maze Adventure

Maybe you’re into corn mazes or maybe you’re into apple orchards, but how about an apple tree maze?

The Amaze N’ Adventure is the country’s only apple tree maze. Their apple trees are planted in an espalier (hedge-like) system to form this extremely unique maze. Filled with 1.5 miles of walking trails, 9 varieties of apples to pick, 3 activity areas, a central climbing tower, and games to play, this maze is one you can’t miss!

5. Von Bergen’s Sunflower Festival

VonBergen’s Country Market

9805 IL-173

Hebron, IL 60034

Not quite ready to say goodbye to bright, sunny days? Enjoy 30 acres of sunshine at Von Bergen’s 4th Annual Sunflower Festival. Enjoy the day with your friends and family making memories the old-fashioned way! Stroll through the beautiful sunflowers, take pictures, enjoy the autumn flowers and breathe in fresh country air.

It was really hard to come up with our favorite five, but use our list as a starting point and keep on exploring!
